TERRAIN RACE WINS!
Terrain Race named Best International Obstacle Race at Challenge Awards 2019
Thanks to your support, Terrain Race was recently named Best International Obstacle Race at the Challenge Awards in London, England! J.P. Sakamoto traveled to London to accept the award on behalf of Terrain Race and CoolEvents to attend the ceremony at the prestigious Queen’s Club in tony West Kensington neighborhood of London.
Let’s Do This, the UK-based endurance awards host, recently announced that Terrain Race bested 19 other finalists to win Best International Obstacle Race with 62% of the vote. 20 additional winners were announced in categories including cycling events, road races, and triathlons.
“We noticed OCR participation was on the decline nationwide, so we reimagined Terrain Race as a fun event for people of all fitness levels,” said Cool Events CEO Bill Spata, who acquired Terrain Race in 2018. “We’re always looking to see how we can make the endurance space appeal to more than just elite athletes and that’s exactly what J.P. Sakamoto and his team have achieved with Terrain Race.”
Terrain Race projects to see over 500,000 participants in 2019. “We are very pleased to see that so many of our participants took the time to vote for us,” added Spata about the award.
“We wanted to rebuild Terrain Race into an event with key OCR elements so families and friends could participate together without the intimidation of an extreme event,” said J.P. Sakamoto, who oversees Terrain Race as CoolEvents’ Vice President of Mud Brands. “I’m blessed to lead a great team of tireless, passionate workers who spend time out on the road, week after week.”
According to Let’s Do This, there were 86,158 votes cast across all categories to select the 21 Challenge Awards winners. Other finalists in the Best International Obstacle Race category included Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Epic Series, Bone Frog, Rugged Maniac, and the Rob Gronkowski-partnered Stadium Blitz.
